Mishna Lishma: Mishna Lunch N’ Learn: The sixth grade boys asked me to teach them Mishna during their free time ( lunch) and we have been having short Mishna lessons twice a week during our lunch time. This has been so rewarding for them and for me. It is wonderful to see children who want to learn out of love for the Torah and not for any grade! We are presently completing perek 9 in Masechet Brachot HaRoeh. Yishar Koach to our sixth grade boys!!

                                    Nov. 2

We had a very productive week in Kita Daled. In Chumash we continued working on our Chumash vocabulary and learning about Yaakov’s first days in Lavan’s house. We will be dramatizing the scene of Yaakov meeting the shepherds and his cousin, Rachel, at the well, on Monday using Chumash language and translating it to modern Ivrit ( Hebrew). In this way the students will use the new vocabulary in a meaningful and fun way. We will have costumes and props, too. During this coming week, we will progress towards the birth of the shevatim ( tribes) and learn a few Rashi’s.

In Navi we completed our project on Bnei Yisrael’s preparation in entering Eretz Yisrael and presented it to the class. We will work on completing perek bet this week and start learning about the conquest of Yericho. Our next project will be building a model of Yericho in order to emphasize the magnitude of the miracle Hashem did for Bnei Yisrael in its conquest of this city.

This week the children once again learned about the parsha and hopefully shared the D’var Torah and questions and answers with you. Please sign and return so I know they shared this with you.

We continued our rehearsals for our Chanuka play and the children are doing a really good job!

Shalom U'vracha !
I hope you had a meaningful Yom Kippur and am sure you are busy preparing for the next holiday:Succot. We, too, in our sixth grade Judaic class are busy learning about Succot. We completed our study in the last two weeks of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur and have now started our Succot packet. The students were tested on the laws of Rosh Hashana and did quite well. In order to enhance our study of Succot we are having a mini Arbaat haMinim contest! The students are divided into 4 teams of Lulavim,Etrogim, Hadasim and Aravot and will compete in different categories connected to Succot. This will add some "simcha" to the important mitzvah of "V'samachta b'chagecha" that is vital to Chag haSuccot.
In Chumash we completed perek bet and after Succot we will have a test on prakim aleph and bet in Sefer Shmot. We will also start an interesting project: designing an ancient Egyptian city.
In Navi we are near completion of our second perek and here , too, the test will be after Succot.
Today your child will have another beautiful D'var Torah to share with you . Please encourage them to do so and return signed and decorated for our Yofi shel Parasha corner.

We also had another beautiful Oneg Shabbat  on Friday, where we learned some more new songs, sang Shabbat songs, practiced Kiddush,  and got a treat in honor of the approaching Shabbat.
In Navi: We completed our study of perek aleph in Sefer Shmuel. We learned about many different people and places mentioned in the perek, and of course, of the birth of Shmuel. We also learned many new Navi words:מנה, ויזבח, וישתחוו, עקרה, שכורה, נדר, נזיר

B"H
Shalom U'vracha  Fourth Grade Parents!
We have had an exciting week in kita Daled. In Chumash we worked on the psukim 13-14 in perek 28 in Parshat Vayeitzei and learned the words:     רעך שוכב עפר הארץ ימה קדמה צפונה נגבה
We also learned the song:   ופרצת
The students had some worksheets on the  Chumash vocabulary to help reinforce their knowledge and retention of the new words. This week the students will also get a reading log and will need to read the psukim aloud to an adult at home. Please sign and comment if your child was also able to explain the psukim. Students who can also explain the psukim will get an extra star on our reading chart.
In Parshat HaShavua your fifth grader learned an interesting idea about the parsha. I hope he/she shared it with you. Please sign and return on Tuesday.
In Navi we had a very interesting discussion about the leaders Moshe and Yehoshua. We are still learning about the entrance to Eretz Yisrael. This week we will continue and complete the first perek.
The students will work on a new project. They will prepare a memory game with the important people and places we are learning about in the beginning of Sefer Yehoshua.
In Dinim we continued learning about the laws of Elul and Rosh Hashana. We will be completing them this week and then the children will review for the test (TBA) by way of Bingo games, review sheets and other activities designed to help your child retain the concepts and phrases.

Rabbi Elbaz's Sixth grade Judaic Newsletter for Aug. 24th

Shalom U'vracha Sixth Grade Parents,
Welcome Back and what a great first week of school!
After reviewing the five books of the Torah we began Sefer Shmot. We worked on some vocabulary, reading accurately and fluidly from the Chumash and content comprehension including Rashi. We are trying to figure out what Rashi's questions and answers are . We are presently working on Perek Aleph psukim 1-10. Please make sure you hear your student read aloud from these psukim.
In Navi we reviewed some of the Shoftim we learned last year and will continue to the two last shoftim Eli Cohen haGadol and Shmuel Hanavi. We began Sefer Shmuel Aleph perek aleph with emphasis on the people and places in perek aleph and on the birth of Shmuel.
In Mishna the students are working on a project on the topic of the men of the Great Assembly and the Tanaim.
In Dinim the students received a packet on the laws of Chodesh Elul and Rosh Hashana which will be our basis of learning for the next few weeks.
On Friday we learned the parsha of Shoftim and are continuing our Yofi Shel Parasha page. Please remember to sign and return. We also had a wonderful Oneg Shabbat with songs and a wordsearch on the parsha.

Rabbi Elbaz's Fourth Grade Judaic Newsletter for Aug. 24th

Shalom U'vracha Fourth Grade Parents,
Welcome Back and what a great first week we had in Kita Daled1
After a general introduction about the five books of the Torah we began Parashat Vayeitsei. We worked on different Chumash vocabulary from perek 28 pasukim 11- 15: such as: Vayeitsei, vayelech, vayelen, ki ba hashemesh, sulam, chalom.
The students also learned that many times the letter heh at the end of a word can be replaced by the letter lamed at the beginning of the word where it means "to" like : Charanah means the same as L'Charan. We played games to enforce the vocabulary and already had hw this past week. Please review psukim 11-15 in perek 28 Parashat Vayeitsei with your child.
Navi: We are learning Sefer Yehoshua this year and began by familiarizing ourselves with the map of Eretz Canaan and the different territories the tribes received when they conquered and settled there.
We remembered that Moshe Rabbeinu conquered the eastern side of the Jordan and Hashem passed the leadership to Yehoshua. It was Yehoshua Ben Nun who led Bnei Yisrael into Eretz Canaan, their first stop being Gilgal. We will start with the mitzvah of the conquest of Eretz Canaan.
In Dinim we got our Elul and Rosh Hashana packet and will continue working on that this week, too.
On Friday the children learned about Parshat Shoftim. I hope they shared it with you . Please sign and return tomorrow. We also had an Oneg Shabbat which we all enjoyed by singing and a wordsearch.
That's it for first week of school!
