Rabbi Elbaz's Sixth grade Judaic Newsletter for Aug. 24th

Shalom U'vracha Sixth Grade Parents,
Welcome Back and what a great first week of school!
After reviewing the five books of the Torah we began Sefer Shmot. We worked on some vocabulary, reading accurately and fluidly from the Chumash and content comprehension including Rashi. We are trying to figure out what Rashi's questions and answers are . We are presently working on Perek Aleph psukim 1-10. Please make sure you hear your student read aloud from these psukim.
In Navi we reviewed some of the Shoftim we learned last year and will continue to the two last shoftim Eli Cohen haGadol and Shmuel Hanavi. We began Sefer Shmuel Aleph perek aleph with emphasis on the people and places in perek aleph and on the birth of Shmuel.
In Mishna the students are working on a project on the topic of the men of the Great Assembly and the Tanaim.
In Dinim the students received a packet on the laws of Chodesh Elul and Rosh Hashana which will be our basis of learning for the next few weeks.
On Friday we learned the parsha of Shoftim and are continuing our Yofi Shel Parasha page. Please remember to sign and return. We also had a wonderful Oneg Shabbat with songs and a wordsearch on the parsha.
Shavua Tov!

Rabbi Elbaz's Fourth Grade Judaic Newsletter for Aug. 24th

Shalom U'vracha Fourth Grade Parents,
Welcome Back and what a great first week we had in Kita Daled1
After a general introduction about the five books of the Torah we began Parashat Vayeitsei. We worked on different Chumash vocabulary from perek 28 pasukim 11- 15: such as: Vayeitsei, vayelech, vayelen, ki ba hashemesh, sulam, chalom.
The students also learned that many times the letter heh at the end of a word can be replaced by the letter lamed at the beginning of the word where it means "to" like : Charanah means the same as L'Charan. We played games to enforce the vocabulary and already had hw this past week. Please review psukim 11-15 in perek 28 Parashat Vayeitsei with your child.
Navi: We are learning Sefer Yehoshua this year and began by familiarizing ourselves with the map of Eretz Canaan and the different territories the tribes received when they conquered and settled there.
We remembered that Moshe Rabbeinu conquered the eastern side of the Jordan and Hashem passed the leadership to Yehoshua. It was Yehoshua Ben Nun who led Bnei Yisrael into Eretz Canaan, their first stop being Gilgal. We will start with the mitzvah of the conquest of Eretz Canaan.
In Dinim we got our Elul and Rosh Hashana packet and will continue working on that this week, too.
On Friday the children learned about Parshat Shoftim. I hope they shared it with you . Please sign and return tomorrow. We also had an Oneg Shabbat which we all enjoyed by singing and a wordsearch.
That's it for first week of school!
